Support APANO's Community Space

Summary of the Project

The Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon is moving into a new office and community space and we need your help to build a space that all of our community can use and enjoy.

What is APANO?

The Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon is a statewide, grassroots organization, uniting Asians and Pacific Islanders to achieve social justice. We use our collective strengths to advance equity through empowering, organizing and advocating with our communities.

Community Space in the Jade District

The Jade District, the area surrounding 82nd and Division in SE Portland, was designated by the Portland Development Commission (PDC) as a Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative (NPI) district in 2011. The NPI is a public/private partnership that aims to transform underserved commercial districts in east Portland into engines of economic growth without displacing the communities that reside there.

What We Need

Funds raised in this campaign will support renovation costs. With an expanding staff and rapidly growing membership, the funds will go towards supporting a sustainable infrastructure. We need to knock down walls, change the carpet, add more desks, and conduct a huge renovation project in order to make it a workable space for everyone.

The Impact

Your support in building a community space in the Jade District will allow for more programming and community building of the groups that live and work in the area, including Asians and Pacific Islanders, Russian, and Latino communities.

Communities in the neighborhood created their own visioning plan of what this community center can look like. Check it out here!

Risks & Challenges

APANO is a statewide, grassroots organization, and we pride ourselves on listening and engaging with the communities that we work with. The Jade District is APANO's first venture into place-based organizing and we acknowledge that not everyone embraces our organizing methods. However, we value a community-driven vision and encourage everyone to work with us in creating a community that is inclusive and accepting of all if its members.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you can't support financially, that's OK! Please help us by sharing this campaign with your friends and on all of your social media networks. We appreciate your support and if you live in Oregon, come organize and work with us!
